Creation Speaks
What could be better than to worship outdoors under the heavens. Gathering under our pecan tree on the farm has ignited in me a new awareness of nature and how God communicates through His creation. We’ve seen flocks of birds circling the pecan, we’ve had two wedge-tail eagles join us and we’ve seen birds we’ve never seen before. It gives us an overwhelming sense of God’s presence – why? I don’t know – but it feels like every time we come to worship creation joins in. Psalm 96 “Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad. Let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord……”
We’ve seen friends who don’t believe in Jesus start on a journey of faith because they can see and feel God’s presence during their time under the pecan. Romans 1:20 tells us that He makes Himself known through His creation. “….for since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
Since disciplining myself to sit in silence and just be – I have become more aware of my surroundings and amazed at how God does use nature to speak to us. I could write a book on how God has used animals in my life - to warn me of danger, to guide and direct, and to show me how much He loves me. I remember sitting out on the back veranda just being still before Jesus and absorbing His presence. I prayed that I could get a glimpse of heaven – a couple of minutes later I opened my eyes to see a massive King parrot sitting directly in front of me – it sat and just stared at me. We just looked at each other for about a minute. I silently said thank you and walked away thinking “did that just happen?”
We need to open our eyes to what is around us. Look at the billions of stars, look at the galaxies, look at a flower, a dog, a cat , an ant– look at the majestic horse. His creation oozes His glory - we just need to take the time out of our busy schedules to open our eyes to what He has created and be aware that sometimes He uses His creation to communicate with us.
